Radiator Guards Review

Radiator Guards came about from necessity. Motorcycles started using liquid cooled engines. These engines required a radiator. Radiators are fragile. Dirt bike radiator guards evolved out of the need for radiator protection in a harsh environment. Dirt bikes get abused. They operate in harsh and dirty conditions. The old air cooled engines would get clogged with dirt and overheat. this would leave the rider sitting on the sidelines for the rest of the day. A liquid cooled engine eliminated this problem and created another. How to protect a fragile radiator. The factory radiator guards were flimsy pieces of plastic that left a lot to be desired. They offered minimum protection and left the most vulnerable areas of the radiator fully exposed in an accident.

The factory teams have an unlimited supply of resources. The privateer does not. This lead to the need for radiator protection. Many different designs came up. Some were good and some were not. A good company that designs radiator guards today will test and retest in real world applications. CNC machining allows for some very unique designs.
